Nancy Jo Poirrier
I received my BS and ME degrees from LSU majoring in fine arts education. . After 40 years of teaching art, I am concentrating on painting. My work hangs in homes from coast to coast. I have exhibited locally in The LSU Glassell Gallery, Art Melt at the Brunner Gallery, The LA. State Archives, Dixon Smith Interiors, and several other local galleries. I have received awards from competitions at these and other settings.
My medium of choice is oil. I use mixed media, and acrylicsalso. My style of painting employs a contemporary slant to familiar persons, places, and things.
I cannot recall a time when I did not want to create. My major professor, Caroline Dureaux, had a strong effect on my thinking about making art. Such artists as Wayne Thiebaud, Janet Fish, Edward Hopper, and J.M.W Turner have influenced my painting style.
Like Matisse, I hope to be painting even if I am in a wheel chair or flat on my back, aging while creating. I would love to breathe my last breath in the studio – creating!”
