My name is Kyle Vernon, I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1959, but lived a good deal of my life in Wilberforce, Ohio. I am an artist/photographer who is gravitating away from the commercial field to the nature and fine arts photography field. I've been an artist/photographer, exclusively, my whole life. I have also always been interested in nature, an interest I've long neglected in my commercial endeavors.
I have recently been creating works for exhibit at venues here in South Florida. I am a new member of Art Serve here in Fort Lauderdale and I have been participating in a few local venues with decent results winning second in show in only my second exhibit. Exhibiting at shows is a lot different than doing anonymous graphics work, you get to relate and interact directly with the end user. and I enjoy that interaction. Still, I've built this site to allow people who have experienced my work, as well as those who haven't, to be able to purchase my work anytime they would like. Also it allows me to offer special items, like a planned set of desktop graphics and screensavers that should be made available shortly.
I graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1980 with a degree in Visual Communications. I began my career as a commercial illustrator in Las Vegas doing everything from B&W spot illustrations for silkscreen to full color airbrush renderings for everything from specialty buttons, and signs to newpaper ads. At the time in Las Vegas my knowledge of mechanical graphic arts made me a solid commodity in a career field that until relatively recently was fairly limited.
I moved home to Baton Rouge and continued working in graphic arts. I won a few art contest for illustration and designed logos and signs for Q106 FM and other companies and I also worked as a lab technician and airbrush retoucher in a custom photo lab, where my interest in photography was once again piqued.
I then moved to Atlanta and began to shift to photography, shooting portraits and eventually working for Chestnut Color, a large color lab whose clients consisted of quite a few great commercial photographers. I left there to assist for Fred Gerlich Studios as well as Don Sparks Studio, and other photographers until I cut my teeth and built my own studio, once again in Las Vegas, Vernon PhotoDesign was born.
Vernon PhotoDesign was a strictly commercial endeavor whose clients consisted of mainly Las Vegas Ad Agencies. Miller and Associates, DRGM Advertising, Shonkwiler Marcoux, and others with accounts such as Caesars Palace, The Stardust Hotel and Casino, Tropicana, Summerlin Developments, Valley Bank of Nevada, The Boulevard Mall, Las Vegas Review Journal, Nevada Business Journal as well as other National accounts like Body Glove, Car Stereo Review Magazine, Eldorado Cartridge, Hilts Molds. Las Vegas Discount Golf and Tennis. Winning 2 Addy's in the process.
I also won another Addy Award when I moved my business back to Baton Rouge. Working for Root and Associates Advertising. And also shooting works for XDesign (Barq's Rootbeer), Plasco and worked with Image 4 Pre-press when the Internet attracted pretty much the full extent of my interest in 1993-94. I started learning HTML and PERL. In 1996 I contracted with an Internet publishing company in Fort Lauderdale to design web sites and my feet were squarely back in the design end of the industry. I left Net Management Services in 2005 and I now freelance my design services out through ODPDesign and renewed my interest in photography, but this time through nature and fine arts.
This, my latest endeavor I hope you enjoy, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
